Computational Fluid Dynamics

When applying computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to the study of ear wind noise, we create digital models and simulate airflow interaction.  CFD software 'solves' complex equations to predict fluid behavior, providing detailed visualizations of velocity and pressure fields.  This allows for the precise analysis of how air interacts with different features, revealing the formation of turbulent eddies and pressure fluctuations that contribute to wind noise.

AirStreamz CFD Validation

The RANS TKE field identifies modeled regions of elevated turbulent fluctuation energy associated with shear and separation.  Reductions in TKE near and upstream of the ear indicate suppression of turbulence intensity and provide flow-physics evidence consistent with reduced hydrodynamic pressure fluctuations and wind-noise generation.

Understanding wind noise helps us develop the most effective products.
