"As avid cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts, we found the frequent, and sometimes constant, drone of wind noise annoying and potentially dangerous. Wind noise masks surrounding sounds and at moderate wind speeds, can easily exceed 85 dB. In addition, longer-term exposure to excessive noise >85 dB can impact hearing. As a result, we starting investigating solutions to reduce wind noise... but found few that addressed the wide range of wind noise related issues encountered by outdoor enthusiasts.  And so, the story of Cat-Ears began..."

"It has been said that 'the purpose of the ears is to point the eyes.'

While the ability of the auditory system to localize sound sources is just one component of our perceptual systems, it has high survival value."  (ECE Department, University of California - Davis)

"I turn my head about 20-30° to reduce wind noise when talking or listening to someone when I ride.

However, this probably isn't a good idea for long conversations or watching where you're going."

"Innovative safety technologies will continue to play an important role in the way

cyclists interact in traffic... particularly as vehicles become quieter." (Safety Science 2018)

"Cycling safety improvements have an aggregate elasticity value that is greater than one.

This means that safety improvements attract proportionately more people to bicycling

(i.e. a 10% increase in safety results in a greater than 10% increase in bicycling)."
